Assistant Principal Janae Cohen

Greetings Hornet Family!

It is my honor and esteemed pleasure to serve as the Assistant Principal of Hampton Elementary! I am thrilled and tremendously blessed to have the opportunity to serve and work with the students, faculty/staff, and community of Hampton Elementary School. Working alongside Principal Williams, I am excited to carry out the mission, vision, and goals of the school, ultimately impacting student success. 

My philosophy on education is rooted in the belief that every child, regardless of socioeconomic status or zip code, deserves access to a high-quality education. This commitment drives my efforts to ensure that every student has equal access and the opportunity to achieve their best in a safe learning environment.

I received my undergraduate degree from North Carolina A&T State University (AGGIE PRIDE!). Upon graduation, I began my teaching career, where I joined Teach For America. I received my Masters from Mercer University and Ed.S. from Kennesaw State University. I have certifications in Gifted, ESOL, Coaching, and Tier One Educational Leadership.

I bring over 14 years of experience in elementary and middle school settings, spanning grades K-8. My previous roles have included Instructional Coach, Grade Level Chair, Lead Mentor, Assessment Contact, classroom teacher, and chair of a host of programs and events.

In 2019, I was awarded the district’s highest honor, Henry County Schools District Teacher of the Year. I was the youngest and first African American to receive this distinguished honor. Highlights of my career include Governor’s School Leadership Academy, Superintendent’s Special Advisory Committee, A.S.P.I.R.E. cohort member, Georgia Council on Economic Education Feature Teacher, and Veteran Foreign War Affairs Recipient Educator of the Year.

I am elated to be a part of the Hampton family and work alongside you to ensure the success of our students and school community! I look forward to expounding on the greatness already happening at Hampton Elementary and continuing to have a fantastic year!
